Daddy FAQ Here are some Questions and Answers to Frequently Asked Questions: Q: DO I HAVE TO GIVE UP SEX
DURING PREGNANCY? Q: WILL MY PENIS BURST THE "WATER BAG?" A: No! Your Medical Professional will assure you that this will not happen...no matter the size, technique, or position! Have fun during pregnancy, sex as usual. Just keep in mind there are certain positions that feel better and are physically safer for the later stages of pregnancy. In simple terms, it's a cork or stopper at the base of the placenta that keeps the baby secured in a "water bag" full of amniotic fluid. This cork is often released during the later stages of pregnancy, and typically begin the "water-breaking" stages of labor. When the cork dissolves, the amniotic fluid can begin to drain from the placenta, and the baby is able to flow towards the birth canal. Labor and deliver can still be a few weeks away. When this happens, be sure to consult your healthcare provider. Q: SHOULD I TALK/SING TO THE BABY IN THE WOMB? A: It's up to you! Experts say that your baby, even during the early stages of pregnancy, can hear your voice and distinguish tones. Now is a great time to enable your baby to hear your voice, listen to your melodies, and know that he/she is coming into a loving, caring, and happy family! Q: HOW INVOLVED SHOULD I BE IN DOCTOR VISITS & CHILD BIRTH CLASSES? A: As much as possible. It's important to be involved in all stages of pregnancy with your mate. It not only encourages her to let her know she has a willing partner, but it also is very rewarding and educational. You'll want to know everything you can to be best prepared for this new adventure. Your mommy2be will probably want to take a child birth class, and you should be there with her. Not to mention, being at the doctor's office to hear the baby's heartbeat for the first time is totally awesome! Q: WHY BREASTFEED? A: It's naturally the way God intended for us to nurture our young. But it's okay if you and your mate decide to use formula or an alternate method of feeding your newborn. Your mommy2be is probably very studied on this topic, and has consulted doctor, family, friends, and many books on the benefits of breastfeeding. It has many rewards, health wise, emotionally, physically, and developmentally for your newborn. Listen and actively discuss breastfeeding and alternatives with your partner to make the right decision that is best for you and your baby. Q: WHAT ABOUT SHOTS? A: Be prepared, well-educated, and study on the effects of the various shots your baby will need as he/she grows. Your doctor will present you with medical facts, risks, and statistics on each shot prior to the time the shots are needed. Not all shots are required. You and your partner should decide what is best for you and your baby. Again, be involved and actively participate in this decision with your mommy2be. If you determine that it is best to have shots for your baby as he/she develops, as a new daddy you should plan to be there for every doctor visit to support, comfort, and encourage your new mommy and new baby. Bottom Line: Watching your child receive shots is tough...be strong for mommy and baby! Q: WHAT KIND OF THINGS SHOULD I DO FOR MOMMY2BE? A: Be sure to read our "Top 10 List: Things to do for Mommy." Most importantly, be involved and actively participate in every aspect of pregnancy, labor, delivery, and future parenting. Make a commitment now...and make it for life!
