Daddy2be Top Ten List:
What
to do and say...

There is a simple theme here...follow this list, exercise it daily, more than once a day, again and again....you get the hint!  (Tip:  PRINT NOW!)

1:  Be encouraging, supporting, loving, and show that you are committed.

Tell her that you love her at least 15 times a day...it should sound something like this:  "You are the most beautiful women I know!  I'm so glad you're my wife!  I love you!"

2:  Be sure you tell her that everything she wears looks great and does not make her look fat!

Her body is going through a lot of changes.  There's swelling, weight gain, water gain, and sometimes stretch marks.  Regardless, she is the most beautiful person in the world.  HUGE TIP:  Buy her something nice that will impress her, or something like a sexy, classy, Gap Maternity outfit, or Old Navy Maternity wear.  Go out for the evening, see a movie (free movie tickets), or rent her favorite DVD,  and, by-all-means, have a night-cap!  Candlelight is a HUGE PLUS here!

3:  Go to childbirth class with her!

Don't let her be a lonely mommy-to-be in the various classes she'll want to take to better prepare herself for this new adventure.  Your commitment starts here...even be proactive in choosing some of the classes or class times.  Be on time, leave work early, be enthusiastic, and, yes, practice the breathing techniques with her!

4:  Talk to the Baby!!!

If she hasn't told you by now, there is much research that shows how hearing mommy's and daddy's voice while in the womb positively effects the development of your child.  Find a lullaby or a love song that you want to sing to your developing baby.  Sing to him/her every night, every morning.  Your baby will remember the tune!  And, mommy will remember your example and commitment.  How about some Easy Rock like "Babe," by Styx, or "I Love You, Always Forever," by Donna Lewis....

5:  Go to every Ob/Midwife appointment she has.

Okay, now you're starting to see the theme here.  Be involved, be committed, show her you care, and that you are preparing too!  You may even have some questions you want to ask at these visits.  Maybe you want to let the Ob know that YOU are cutting the cord!

6:  Send flowers and a personalized message from you and/or the baby!

Safe rule here:  once a trimester.  Every three months her emotions are changing, her body is changing, her moods are swinging...help to ease her anxiety with a gift that shows her you love her.  Even create a personalized note from the baby to her.  (click here to see an example).

7:  Help her write, stamp and mail thank you notes!

You'll thank us a long time for this tip!  This one is HUGE!  You're definitely going to be the hero.  Be sure to let it be your suggestion.  Make the offer.  You'll be the daddy2be that she brags about to all of her family and friends.  "You da man" takes a strong grip on this tip!

8:  If she's "nesting," so are you.

There will be many household tasks that must be completed before she can relax.  Help her with the list, help her do each item, and do it quickly!!!

9:  Give her a massage, a manicure, a pedicure, a facial, and a hairdo.

How she feels is directly related to how she thinks she looks!  Over the course of the 9 month period, she may gain anywhere from 30 pounds and up!  That's added pressure on her feet, back, joints, and muscles.  Help her relax with a personal massage or give her a gift certificate so that she can be pampered at her favorite place.  She'll also want to have her hair and nails done a week or two before her expected due date.  Be conscious of this, and be the HERO!

10:  Help her pack for the journey to the hospital/delivery room.

She probably has a list of things she wants to take with her to the hospital or that she'll want with her if she's having a home delivery.  Labor can be tough!  You'll need several things to help her feel comfortable during the contractions and "hee, hee, hooo" breathing exercises.  Buy her the Family4Life LaborGear Bag.  It's a great surprise and the perfect gift to show her you're ready too!  (Click here to see the Family4Life LaborGear Bag).

Please remember, this is a very special time.  Be sure to do your part to make it even more special.  Take care of your mommy2be...she'll be taking care of your baby (and you)!  You can help her satisfy some of her cravings !!!
