Ear Infection?  Before you demand antibiotics from your child's doctor, you should know that most cases of acute otitis media will clear up on their own within 48 hours.  A new study reveals that using a pain-relieving eardrop instead of an antibiotic does the job just as well.  The remedy is more economical and also reduces antibiotic overuse, which many experts blame for creating resistant strains of bacteria.  "If your child is still in pain or has a fever after a couple of days, it's appropriate to use antibiotics," says lead investigator Paul S. Matz, M.D., of Brown University Medical School, in Providence, Rhode Island.
